Residential rents exceeded their pre-downturn peak

Residential rents exceeded their pre-downturn peak in September 2010 to hit a record high, according to the latest figures.

Across the country rents have been rising according to research.

In September 2010, UK rents rose on average to just under £700 a month, above the previous high in 2008. The average UK rent is now over 3% higher than the same time last year. This follows 8 consecutive months of rises.

In September 2010, London rents hit their highest on record. Landlords increased their rents by 1.1% to almost £975 per month. They have risen by almost 7% since January.

Its becoming more and more important that prospective tenants do their homework when looking for a rental property. With rents rising all the time at the moment you should try and get the best possible price you can and it will pay to register with several agents in your area rather than just one or two.
